Association of Women for Action & Research

AWARE is Singapore’s first and currently the only advocacy group dedicated to promoting gender equality and understanding. Since its inception in November 1985, AWARE has sought to bring women’s perspective to national issues and focused on three areas: Support, Research and Advocacy. We believe that gains made by women are not gains made at the expense of men. Rather, they are gains which benefit society as a whole. Aware is a not-for-profit non-government organization and is funded solely by donations and member subscriptions.

Society Against Family Violence (SAFV)

To prevent and reduce of the incidence of family violence in Singapore To encourage the setting-up of and provide direct therapeutic services for victims of violence. To encourage the provision of and provide for direct rehabilitative services for perpetrators of violence. www.safv.com.sg
The National Committee for UNIFEM, Singapore UNIFEM focuses its work at the country level within the context of the United Nations Resident Coordinator System. Playing a strong advocacy role, the Fund concentrates on fostering a multilateral policy dialogue on women's empowerment. www.unifem.org
ARTS Magdalena (Singapore) Magdalena (Singapore) comprises a group of local arts practitioners that aims to promote learning and networking amongst women in the creative arts. Its formation has been inspired by the international network, the Magdalena Project. It has emerged from being an amateur sport run by volunteer management who relied on grants and donations, to becoming a professionally run NSA with eight full-time specialist staff and which generates a proportion of its expenditure through revenue generation and sponsorship. The Association is the National body for netball in Singapore. It supports 45 clubs - most of which have multiple teams, 102 Associate members, 11 Life Members and 101 Junior members.
