Buying Sex Is Not A Sport!
Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006
We have just received information (from JPIC-AMRS Taiwan) about thesituation of women trafficking during the World Cup Games 2006 in Germany.
From 9 June to 9 July 2006, 12 German cities will host the World Cup Games. It is estimated that 40,000 women will be “imported” from Central and Eastern Europe into Germany to “sexually service” the 3 million football fans, who are mostly men. Wooden “sex huts” called “performance boxes” were built next to the main World Cup venue.
Calling for a stop of women trafficking and a respect to human dignity, SVD Curia, Divine Word Missionaries, has organized an online petition, which states that:1. Buying sex is not a sport;2. Treating women’s bodies as sexual commodities violates international standards of sport that promote equality, mutual respect and not-discrimination;3. Honorable men do not buy sex because they respect the dignity and integrity of all human beings;4. No to the organization of prostitution for the World Cup Games.
To support the campaign, please sign on the homepage under CoalitionAgainst Trafficking of Women (CATW). The signatures will be given to the German government and the FIFA president:http://catwepetition.ouvaton.org/php/index.php
